NACOKINGS holds press conference on Selection of Muslim Leadership

The leadership of the National Muslim Kings and Paramount Chiefs (NACOKINGS), over the weekend held a press briefing over the selection of Muslim leadership in the country.

Addressing the media on behalf of the NACOKINGS leadership, Sheikh Al-Husein Zakaria, stated that, “we want to state clearly that, with the existence of this registered body consented to by all our Kings and paramount chiefs, no individual or institution in Ghana today, has any right or authority to appoint or select district, regional or National Imams without recourse to the approval or consultation with our Muslim Kings and paramount chiefs across the country”.

He further indicated that, “any appointment, selection or approval made in Muslim leadership without the consultation and approval of Muslim Kings and paramount chiefs shall deem it inconsequential and hence shall not have the approval or endorsement by NACOKINGS”.

“We are aware of attempts by certain individuals, groups and organizations to lodge the authority of appointment of Imams elsewhere other than the legitimate Muslim Kings and Chiefs in the country,” he added.

The group in a statement also commended the Member of Parliament for Madina constituency, Honorable Francis Fosu Xavier for advocating for the extension of the Muslim holidays in the country.

PRESS CONFERENCE BY THE NATIONAL MUSLIM KINGS AND PARAMOUNT CHIEFS

(NACOKINGS)

His Eminence the Regional Chief Imam, our revered chiefs, respected Ulamaa, the academia, our friends from the media, ladies and gentlemen, invited guests brothers and sisters in Islam,

Asslaamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullaahi Wa Barakaatuhu

We thank you all for your swift response in honoring our invitation to this important press conference on this short notice.

We have invited you here this morning, 30thDecember, 2023, to brief you and the entire Ghanaian citizenry, especially the Muslim Ummah on discussions ongoing at the Muslim leadership front and the position of National Conference of Muslim Kings (Hereinafter referred to as NACOKINGS).

NACOKINGS is an indigenous organization comprising all Muslim Kings, chiefs and Imams in Ghana. It was established and duly registered in 2021 with national secretariat in Accra. All our Muslim Kings, paramount chiefs and chiefs in Ghana have consented to it.

Ladies and gentlemen of the media, we want to state clearly that, with the existence of this registered body consented to by all our Kings and paramount chiefs, no individual or institution in Ghana today, has any right or authority to appoint or select district, regional or National Imams without recourse to the approval or consultation with our Muslim Kings and paramount chiefs across the country.

Any appointment, selection or approval made in Muslim leadership without the consultation and approval of Muslim Kings and paramount chiefs shall deem inconsequential and hence shall not have the approval or endorsement by NACOKINGS.

We are aware of attempts by certain individuals, groups and organizations to lodge the authority of appointment of Imams elsewhere other than the legitimate Muslim Kings and Chiefs in the country.

Ladies and gentlemen, National Conference of Muslim Kings and Paramount Chiefs is aware of the Private Members Bill submitted by Hon Frances Fosu Xaviour, MP for Madina requesting an extension and increment of the already existing Muslim holidays in both Eid Al- Adhaa and Eidul- Fitr. Our Kings and paramount chiefs commend the MP for taking that bold step to advocate for extension of the Muslim holidays instead of the current practice of only one day each for the two Eids. Our Kings and paramount chiefs want to register their fullest unwavering support to the bill and are therefore calling on all MPs regardless of their religious inclinations to support the passage of the bill.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Ghana is, and shall remain the most peaceful country in West Africa if not the entire African sub-continent and we as citizens are admonished to embrace dialogue and lawful means in resolving our differences and misunderstandings whenever they arise. Let us eschew violence, let us accommodate each other especially in the coming year as we inch closer to the campaign season.

Thank you all for coming and May Allaah Subhaanahuu Wa Ta-aa-laa richly bless you all.

Was-Salaamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullaahi Wa Barakaatuhu
