RTU secures first win of the GPL season

Real Tamale United (RTU) have secured their first win of the Ghana Premier League season after recording a 2-0 victory on Sunday against West African Football Academy (WAFA).

In a tense match at the Aliu Mahama Sports Studium in Tamale, RTU needed their best player so far this season David Sandan Abagna to step up once again and score a brace to ensure victory.

David Sandan Abagna’s brace, with one goal in either half was enough to give the first three points of the season for coach Shaibu Ibrahim Tanko’s side.

As expected, the expectant crowd went into wild jubilation after just ten minutes when the first goal was scored. The two teams went into recess with the score 1-0 in favour of RTU.

WAFA came back strongly in the second half but failed to take any of their chances. In the 75th minute, the man of the match, David Sandan Abagna made them pay for their profligacy in front of goal with his second of the match with a snap shot from outside the area.

The brace takes David Sandan Abagna’s tally to five goals from the opening three games of the campaign.

The win takes RTU to four points from their first three games on their return to the top-flight of Ghana football.

Supporters of the team will hope that they build on this result in the subsequent games to cement their status in the premier league.
