Egypt beat UDS 4-3 on a penalty shootout to win gold at the Africa Universities Olympic Games

The University for Development Studies (UDS) have missed a chance to win gold at the grand finale of the African Universities Olympic Games after losing 4-3 to Egypt on a penalty shootout on Monday.

Maulaya and Taufiq Alhassan Alolo missed their opening and last kicks respectively of the shootout while Egypt missed ones during the shootout.

The game ended 0-0 at regulation time as none of the teams were able to find the back of the net.

The game was a difficult one for the Ghanaian side after they failed to convert the chances created earlier on in the game.

Maulaya and Firdaus came close to scoring on a number of occasions in the early hours of the game when they had a 1v1 with the Egyptian goalkeeper.

UDS were lucky to have conceded in the second half after Egypt hit the crossbar twice on two occasions and that could have given the host a win at regulation time.

For a team that produce an unbeaten run till they lost in the finals, UDS will be coming home back to Ghana with their chest high for making the entire nation proud.
