Four more suspects arrested over Cheriponi clashes

Four more suspects have been arrested in connection with recent disturbances in the Cheriponi District of the North East Region.

This brings to a total, of 8, persons arrested by the combine security team station at Cheriponi over the bloody clashes between Konkombas and Anuful.

According to the public relation officer of the Northern Regional Police command, DSP Yussif Tanko, the security retrieved six single barrel guns and one local manufacture gun from the suspect

He said the police have adopted new techniques to deal with the situation in the area and ensure that peace and security are restored.

DSP YUSSIF TANKO stated that the joined security men on the ground are doing patrols of the communities to ensure that there is no further escalation and also to assist those especially women and children who have been displaced.

Confirming the latest arrest to the media, DSP YUSSIF TANKO however called on the leadership of both Anuful and Konkombas to talk to their people and call them to order and to let them know the effects of conflict.

 “We have extended our patrols to a lot of places within the Chereponi, Saboba and some parts of the Yendi district. So we are on it and trying very hard to ensure that the situation is brought under control so that normal life will continue at the place,” DSP Yussif Tanko said.

The clashes reportedly started on Friday 15, March 2019 when one person reportedly shot twice by unidentified attackers the victim Jababu Fuad age 22, is currently receiving treatment at the Cheriponi government hospital.

Two persons lost their lives whiles many others sustained of injuries with several properties destroyed as a result of the clashes. There were reprisal attacks over the weekend and on Monday.

Many of the displaced are women and children in the area whose homes have been razed.

Meanwhile it is report that some students of the Cheriponi senior high school in the Cheriponi district are fleeing the area for fear of their lives.
