Sagnarigu: Supporters of NPP vandalize party office

Some supporters of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Sagnarigu constituency of the Northern Region, on Friday July 21, 2023, vandalized the party constituency office located at Shishagu.

Their anger stems from their belief that the party executives in the constituency are unfairly supporting Madam Felicia Tetteh’s bid for the upcoming parliamentary primaries.

According to the aggrieved NPP supporters, the executives are deliberately withholding nomination forms from other potential candidates who wish to contest against her.

Some of the irate supporters of NPP expressing their frustration to the media indicated that, “we are here to pick nomination forms for our candidate Dr. Wahab Alhassan, for him to contest the upcoming parliamentary primaries. But we were told that the constituency executives were not ready to meet us. This is not right,”

“Filicia Tetteh does not own Sagnarigu. The party has a constitution that allows any qualified individual to obtain nomination forms and contests. We suspect that Madam Filicia has influenced the party executives through bribery, leading to the unavailability of nomination forms for other interested candidates”, they accused.

So far only Madam Felicia Tetteh had picked nomination forms to contest the upcoming parliamentary primaries in the Sagnarigu constituency for the second time. Reports within the party suggests that she may be going unopposed.

It would be recalled that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) opened nominations on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 specifically for the parliamentary primaries in the orphan constituencies.

The nomination period will close on Thursday, August 10, 2023 with elections scheduled to be held from September to December 2023.
