Northern Regional Authorities asked Head Potters returnees to proceed to their various localities

The Northern Regional Authorities have on Tuesday 31st March asked all the 53 head potters who returned to Tamale to proceed to their various communities.

The 53 head potters, also known as “Kayayei”, were intercepted by security officials in the Northern Region on Monday 30th March, 2020 on board in a Malian registered vehicle.

The mass return of these head potters in to the North is as result of a two-week partial lockdown of Accra, Tema, Kumasi and Kasoa which began on Monday as part of measures to contain the novel coronavirus pandemic in the country.

Majority of these Kayayei returnees are from Karaga District, Nantong, Kumbungu, Nyankpala, and Sagnarigu District.

However, diamondfmonline.com gathered that their details and phone numbers were taken by the health officials of the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) for further contact.

Meanwhile, the Northern Regional Authorities have quarantined the five males who were also on board on the same vehicle and suspected to be Malians.

It is reported that their samples were taken for testing.

Northern region has recorded ten COVID-19 cases so far and this has led to a quarantine of 36 staff of the Tamale Teaching Hospital TTHover a possible COVID-19 infection after coming into contact with two of the ten foreign nationals who have tested positive for COVID-19 in Tamale.
