RTU Players condemn supporters’ disruption of their training session

Players of premier league side Real Tamale United (RTU) have condemned the attack on the team at their training session that disrupted the process last Monday at the Kasalgu Complex of Tamale Utrecht Football Academy.

At a short media engagement on Thursday after the team’s training session at the astro turf near the University for Development Studies (UDS) in Tamale, Deputy Captain of the team, Nurudeen Mohammed Yussif on behalf of the players read out a press release to state the players’ position and condemn the supporters who stormed their training session on Monday and disrupted it.

The release, portions of which read, “We condemn, in no uncertain terms, the behavior of that group of supporters.”

It adds that, “The same supporters have not shown concern to our plight and wellbeing. It is surprising therefore that the same supporters would attack us and aggravate our plight.”

The players thanked the team’s patron, board and management for the support they have received since they got promoted into the Ghana Premier League and hoped that the same support will corroborate the team’s efforts to avoid the drop.

Below is a full version of the release:

PRESS RELEASE

ATTACK ON RTU PLAYERS AND TECHNICAL TEAM BY A GROUP OF RTU SUPPORTS.

Esteemed Pressmen, distinguished loyal supporters of the club and stakeholders, I welcome you on behalf of my colleague players. On the 7th of March, 2022 while the team was training at Utrecht, a group of people who called themselves supporters of RTU invaded the pitch and disrupted the training.

  1. Their unruly behavior caused fear and panic among the players and traumatized some of them.
  2. We condemn in no uncertain terms, the behavior of that group of supporters. The same supporters have not shown concern to our plight and wellbeing. It is surprising therefore that the same supporters would attack us and aggravate our plight.
  3. It has also come to our notice that the group of supporters in question said we approve of their despicable action. We state categorically that none of us has made any statement of approval. The supporters lied.
  4. We are aware of the efforts being made by Management and the chief patron of the club in the person of the Regional Minister to solve our financial problems and cater for our wellbeing.
  5. We believe that they are fervently working to get our unpaid salaries soonest.
  6. We pledge our support to our head coach, his technical staff and management.
  7. We therefore, by this medium, appeal to our patron and board to call this group of supporters known as ‘Kurugu Zugu’ to order and to let them know their actions and behavior could affect the psyche of the players before and after matches.
  8. We therefore wish to once more re-iterate our commitment and unflinching support to our hardworking management and technical staff and do hope they will work to get our demands met.

We are once more grateful to our patron, board for the support we are getting.

Thank You.

Released by player of Real Tamale United.
