The Northern Regional Communication Director of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Yussif Danjummah has revealed that his outfit for the past few months has stopped defending the national cathedral project.
According to him the concerns Ghanaians are pointing out to government with regards to the project were undefendable, hence the decision.
“Look at the nasty things people are pointing out, it’s not good for the government, how can you defend this one?” he queried.
The Northern Regional NPP Communication Director made these comments on Diamond Power Drive on Monday January 16, 2023, when he was disputing a comment made by the producer of the show Abdulai Abdul-Gafaru.
The Tamale Metropolitan NADMO Coordinator, while highlighting the achievement of the NPP led Nana Addo government, also indicated, “in this government, we cannot be defending all the time, me I have said it yesterday, if you go and commit your crime as a party person in government, there is no way we should defend you, but if government policy is gearing towards developing this country, we have every right to defend it no matter the opinion of anybody”, he said.
It would be recalled that, President Akufo-Addo on March 5, 2020 cut the sod for the construction of the long-promised National Cathedral. The National Cathedral of Ghana, according to the president is a planned interdenominational Christian cathedral for the country when completed.
However, the cathedral despite its importance to the Christian community in the country, has received a backlash of criticisms because some members of the largest opposition party NDC and other stakeholders in the country, have expressed their dismay about the project due to the current economic and financial difficulties the country is facing. Others have also described the project as a total disrespect to Ghanaians.
