N/R: Convention People’s Party (CPP) in Northern Region Supports NEC Decision

The Regional Executive Committee (REC) of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), said they are in support of the decision taken by the National Executive Council (NEC) of the party.

The party in a press statement indicated that, “We the Regional Executive Committee (REC) of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) in the Northern Region re-affirm our support to the decisions of the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Party”.

It would be recalled that on December 5, 2023, the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Party passed a vote of no confidence in all its national executives.

The decision was taken during a meeting in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region, when the party asked all the national executives to resign or be removed from their respective positions.

Members of the party were drawn from across the country, largely expressing dissatisfaction with the performance of the party’s leadership, hence the decision for the various executives to resign from their positions.

The National Executive Council has thus created a 13-member interim body comprising regional chairmen, a member of the council of elders, regional secretaries, regional organizers, and some representatives of women and youth groups.

The Northern Regional Executive Committee of CPP in a statement, said “as members of the Regional Executive Committee, we know that National Executive Council remains the second highest decision-making body of the party, and therefore, its decision cannot be overturned or reversed by any organ apart from the National Delegates Congress”.

The committee while urging members of the party in the region to respect the NEC decision also warned that it will not hesitate to take disciplinary action(s) against any member who acts contrary to the constitution of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) by associating with any activities of the deposed National Chair and Leader, Nana Frimponmaa Sarpong Kumankuma.
