Alma Mater: Ghana’s Ambassador to Kuwait Alhaji Abubakari Sadiq Abdulai donates learning materials to Bagabaga Annex Primary School

The Ghana’s Ambassador to Kuwait, H.E Alhaji Abubakari Sadiq Abdulai, has donated educational materials worth Gh¢ 35,000 to Bagabaga Annex Primary School of the Sagnarigu Municipality in the Northern Region.

Alhaji Abubakari who is an old student at Bagabaga Annex made the donation on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 after visiting his alma mater on Monday May 16, 2022 to ascertain challenges facing the school. The donation also aimed at aiding smooth and effective teaching and learning in the school.

The items donated include over 1,000 English and Mathematics test books from Basic One(1) to Basic Six(6), a set of pens, pencils, erasers, among others.

The donations were handed over to the management of the school for onward distribution among the pupils in the school.

In his remarks at a short ceremony to present the items to the management of the school, H.E Abubakari Sadiq Abdulai indicated that, this is the period for him to also give back to society most especially his alma mater.

“The reason for donating these books is to help my alma mater. In fact, we were the third batch in the school enroll in 1963, and yesterday when I came around, we had a short discussion with the management and staff of the school. We wanted to find out the challenges facing the school and they cataloged a number of challenges of this school. And, we prioritize those challenges and we realize that, these books were the pressing issue that we should tackle first. Therefore, we decided to go for books and that is why we are here today”, he explained.

Speaking to the media after the donation, H.E Alhaji Abubakari Sadiq Abdulai, however tasked the teachers in the school to effectively use the books to guide the pupils. “We have gotten more intention to donate more to our alma mater”, he stated.

On his part the Sagnarigu Municipal Chief Executive, Yakubu Ahmed Mohammed Polo, commended the Ambassador for the kind gesture, saying “the support by H.E Alhaji Abubakari Sadiq Abdulai is complementing the efforts of the government of Ghana towards uplifting the standard of education in the country”.

He said the government since 2017 has invested so much in the education sector and will continue to do more for the betterment of Ghanaian children.

Meanwhile, the management and staff of the school while thanking HE Alhaji Abubakari Sadiq for the support, said the donation will go a long way to enhance teaching and learning in the school.

Speaking on behalf of the school management, head teacher of the school Sulley Salifu, explained further that, “we want to assure the ambassador that the books would put to good use. We also want to take advantage to make an appeal to the Sagnarigu Municipal Assembly to construct a six-unit class room block for us. The MCE saw things for himself. We do not have enough class rooms and furniture”.
