A delegation made up of management and the planning committee of the annual Diamond Damba Festival (DDF) has paid a courtesy call on the overlord of Dagbon, Yaa Naa Abukari II at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi.
The purpose of the visit was for the delegation to formally inform the overlord of the initiative by Diamond FM, which enters its sixth year this year with activities lined up from 30th September, to 3rd October, 2023.
The delegation was made up of Mohammed Ibn Abdallah, General Manager, Nelson Nyadror Adanuti, Head of News, Alhaj Baba Jamoni, Head of Dagbani Programs at Diamond FM, Alhassan Yakubu, planning committee member, Abdulai Abdul Gafaru, secretary to the planning committee and Abdulai Abdul Majeed, chairman of planning committee.
The delegation was warmly received at the Gbewaa Palace as the overlord of Dagbon impressed upon the staff of Diamond FM to continue to uphold the tenets of professionalism that governs the work of the media.
The Yaa Naa also urged the station to filter the content they put on the airwaves in order to safeguard the peace of Dagbon.
He further urged management and staff of Diamond FM to run programs that will be tailor-made for the youth to do away with drug abuse while also cautioning the people who trade in these drugs to desist from such acts or face the wrath of the almighty God.
The overlord of Dagbon then took time to elaborate on the need for the youth to uphold respect for the elderly as this year’s Damba Festival draws near. He went further to illustrate some historical perspectives in the Damba celebration which he said should serve as the basis upon which the youth can relate to life in general in shaping their future.
On the DDF, the overlord donated some cash towards the organizing of this year’s Diamond Damba Festival and also called on well-meaning individuals to support the cause.
Diamond Damba Festival (DDF) is an initiative of Diamond FM which started 6 years ago. The DDF lines up a number of activities each year to commemorate the annual traditional Damba festival celebrated by the chiefs and people of this area.
It started with blood donation exercise to our major hospitals but has since included other beneficial activities like health insurance registration and renewal for the vulnerable, food and consumables donation to widows and orphans, socialization matches for political parties and ‘rival tribes’ to fraternize and promote peaceful coexistence. This year’s DDF celebration is scheduled to take place between 30th September and 3rd October, 2023 at the forecourt of Diamond FM, Nkrumah Volini at Industrial Area in Tamale.
