Tamale Mayor, Sule Salifu tours BECE centers to encourage candidates.

The Mayor of Tamale, Sule Salifu, has encouraged candidates participating in this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) within the Tamale Metropolis to remain confident and approach their papers with determination to enable them come out with flying colors.

He said, this would ensure they get admitted to the various second cycle institutions of their choice, which would then propel them to achieve their future aspirations.

The mayor stated this after an inspection tour of some BECE centers within the Metropolis on Monday November 15th, 2021.

He visited the Ghana Senior High School (Ghanasco) at Kukuo, Vitting SHS, St Charles SHS at Dohanayili, SDA JHS, and Anbariya Junior High School. He was accompanied by the Tamale Metropolitan Education Director, Amatus D Tug-uu.

Addressing the candidates at separate centers, The Mayor however, reminded the students that the success of their examination is hinged on their input and conduct during the examination, therefore, he urged them to conduct themselves well so they could score higher marks.

He said the Nana Addo led government is putting more efforts to improve accessibility to education at the secondary level, adding that, the government instituted the Free SHS policy to ensure secondary education was generally available to all.

The Tamale Metropolitan Chief Executive Officer, also interacting with a section of the media after the tour indicated that education is the key to human development, he therefore called on parents and guardians to take key interest in their wards feature by ensuing they participated fully in the ongoing BECE exams.

“Parents should take key interest in their children’s feature and their feature begins from today, if you have a child registered to sit for this exam, you need to ensure that he or she participate in the exams”.

He said Parents has the responsibility to take their wards to the examinations centers to ensure their participations, “I am standing here as Mayor of Tamale because of education, and so parents need to take their children’s education seriously” he stressed.

While expressing his appreciation to the Tamale Metropolitan education director and teachers, he also called on them to ensure the students observe all the COVID-19 protocols at the various BECE centers.

On his part, the Tamale Metropolitan Director of Education, Amatus D Tug-uu, revealed that a total of Six thousand and eighteen (6,018) students are taking part in the examination at 25 centers within the Tamale metropolis,

He said out of the total number of students sitting in the exams, 2,939 are males whiles 3,079 are females, adding that the students are from 126 Junior High Schools with the metropolis.

This year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) is expected to end on Friday 19 November, 2021.
