Tamale: 19-year-old wins Top Prizes in NTV Quran Recital Contest 

Hussein Adam, a 19-year-old memorizer of the Holy- Quran has won a scholarship to visit Saudi Arabia for winning the Northern Television (NTV) Quran competition.

Hussein was among 41 contestants selected across the Northern Region to partake in the complete Quran category of the competition.

 Five (5) were shortlisted in each category after intense auditioning to compete in the grand finale of the competition. 

The purpose of the competition was aimed at creating interest in memorization and recitation of the Noble Quran among the youth in the Northern Region.

The event organized by NTV and its partners also had a category for full memorisers, half memorisers, six memorisers, and two memorisers of the Holy Quran.

For the full Quran category, the first runner up received a motorbike a copy of the Holy Quran, as well as a cash amount of GHC 5000, while the winner of the half Quran category also received a cash prize of GHc 3000 a copy of the Holy Quran and electrical iron. The winners of the other category also received a cash prize and some items include a copy of the Holy Quran, electric iron, electrical cookers among others. 

In an interview, Hussein Adam stated that his Quran journey from childhood has been possible with Allah’s will and the support of scholars and parents. 

“It is not easy, and it is important for one to understand the essence of memorising the Quran as its relevance supersedes any worldly gift”, he added.

Dr Tameem Abubakari, who was a guest speaker, in his remarks thus urged parents to invest more in their children’s Arabic education. 

He said investing in the Arabic education of the child was necessary to address child delinquency, and other irresponsible behaviour on the part of children who did not have proper upbringing. 

The Vice Chancellor of the University for Development Studies (UDS), Professor Seidu Alhassan, who was the Chairman of the event, in his closing remarks commended the organiser for the initiative.

He also urged them to consider introducing the initiative at the other part of the region.
