NDC suspends Northern Regional Vice Chairman

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has suspended its Northern Regional Vice-Chairman, Alhaji Hamid Gbewaa. 

The leadership of the party took the decision following a deliberation between National and Regional executives in Accra. 

The party in its suspension letter signed by the General Secretary Fiifi Kwetey indicated, “At its meeting on the 16th of January 2024, to which your Regional Chairman and Regional Secretary were invited, the Functional Executive Committee (FEC), was briefed about your assault on the Northern Regional Treasurer.

At the end of its deliberations the following decisions were taken in accordance with Article 48(1), 48(6) and 48(8) (b) of the Party’s constitution:

a.                  That with immediate effect, your membership of the NDC is suspended

b.                  That. your suspension has been referred to the National Disciplinary Committee for adjudication

You are therefore by this letter, to take note and notice is hereby given, that your membership of the NDC is suspended pending the hearing and finai determination of the matter.

Alhaji Gbewaa was reported to have attacked and assaulted Hajia Shamima Yakubu at the party’s regional secretariat after disagreements over party finances over the weekend. The alleged actions by Alhaji Gbewaa saw the Northern Regional Treasurer sustained injuries to her face and was admitted at the hospital.

Alhaji Hamid was arrested on Monday and had since been released on bail, after appearing before Court. Meanwhile, his supporters on Tuesday locked up the party regional offices in protest against his arrest.
