The New Patriotic Party’s 2020 Parliamentary Candidate for Kpone-Katamanso Constituency Hopeson Yaovi Adorye, has insisted that, he is not the only person within the NPP saying Northerners in the party are only fit for running mates.
He said all leaders within the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) have been saying it and that, it is not only him who is making that particular claim.
“Why should I avoid it? Am I the only person who has been saying that? All our leaders have been saying it. All the leaders in the party have been saying it”, he stressed.
“Why? Is it wrong for me to talk about our tradition?”, he queries.
The Director of Operations of the Alan Kyerematen Campaign Team, made these remarks on Diamond FM Power Drive on Monday 15, Aug 2022 before dropping the call during the live interview when host Mohammed Ibn Abdallah try to probe further about his comments.
It is reported that Mr. Hopeson Adorye after the health walk in Kumasi in support of Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten has allegedly stated that, Northerners in NPP are fit for running mates.
“Dombos are always in the mix and fit as running mates to either a Dankwa candidate or a Busia candidate so, that tradition must continue”, he said.
“Whenever a Dankwa leads the party, the Busia side step aside. But there is a Dombo (for running mate). As for the Dombos they are always there”, he mentioned.
However, his statement has attracted several criticisms from a number of NPP members.
Speaking on Diamond FM, the Director of Operations for Alan Kyerematen Campaign Team, while disputing the assertion said “I have never said that Northerners are only fit for running-mates.”
Mr. Adorye while defending his statement, explained further that, “since 1992 we have our tradition – Dankwa- Dombo-Busia tradition, and since 1992 Dombo is always satisfied. Either Dankwa is satisfied against Busia or Busia satisfied against Dankwa. Dombo is always there, and this is historic facts I have made about our party”, he stressed.
