Gushegu: MP cuts sod for construction of ultramodern transport terminal

The Deputy Transport Minister, Alhaji Alhassan S. Tampuli has on Monday July 18, 2022, cut sod for the construction of an ultramodern transport terminal with auxiliary facilities in his constituency.

The new terminal is to be constructed at the old Gushegu livestock market within Gushegu township in the Northern Region.

It is being executed through the offices of the MP with funding support from the Ghana Ports and Harbour Authority, and upon completion, all buses and other trucks that load at the Gushegu Market Center for various destinations will be relocated there.

The project, which is also to increase business opportunities for the people in Gushegu township, value at Gh¢ 1,740,731.48 and it’s expected to be completed within six(6) months.

According to the Deputy Transport Minister who doubles as the Member of Parliament for Gushegu Constituency, the project is aimed at decongesting the Gushegu township to improve transportation services for users especially at the Market Center during market days.

Addressing the chiefs and people of Gushegu at a short ceremony to cut the sod, the MP narrated that “Gushegu township is a capital of the Municipality and we believe that the capital of the Municipality is deserve a certain basic infrastructure. One of which is a lorry park that we are thinking of having here”, he said.

“We believe that, the combine effects of the modern livestock market and this lorry station would make Gushegu the first to have such ultramodern transport terminal facility within the region. So, the people of Gushegu should be appreciative to the efforts of the President H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo”, he added.

He said, his outfit has resolve to collaborate with the Gushegu Municipal Assembly to complete the uncompleted community center which was initiated by the previous administration for the benefit of people in Gushegu and its adjoin communities.

Touching on the road network within the Gushegu township, the MP indicated that his outfit has put in more efforts to ensure that, the contractor get some payment from government to enable him finish the work.

“And if by the six months we don’t see any action in terms of payment, we have to take the initiative to ensure that the road network in Gushegu will be done in one way or the other”, he mentions.

On his welcoming remarks, the Gushegu Municipal Chief Executive, Yaja Dawuni Robert while commending the MP for his commitment towards ensuring development within the Municipality, said the construction of the transport terminal within the Gushegu Municipality, is a clear manifestation of government’s commitment to improve the living conditions of the people in the area.

“This, and many other projects executed and ongoing in the Municipality, clearly demonstrates the government’s transformational agenda to promote economic development so that the economy can bounds back stronger after the ravaging effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russian- Ukrain War”, he said.

Speaking on the surge of activities of insurgents, within the neighboring countries, Honorable Robert Dawuni however, call on people within Gushegu municipality to be vigilant at all mass gatherings especially at markets and worship centres, and report activities of suspicious characters to the security agencies.

Meanwhile, the MP as part of efforts to augment farming activities in his constituency also procured six (6) farm tractors to assist farmers in his constituency. The tractors have since been distributed among the four zones of the constituency to support farmers.

The sod cutting ceremony attended by, regent of Gushegu Naa, Abdulai Shitobu, the chief imam of Gushegu, party executives, women and children of Gushegu among others.
