The New Patriotic Party (NPP) – Kumbungu

COALITION OF PROSPECTIVE ELECTORAL AREA CO-ORDINATORS’ ASPIRANTS (CPEACA)
19th March, 2022.

THE CHAIRMAN
THE NEW PATRIOTIC PARTY
CONSTITUENCY EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
KUMBUNGU

Dear Sir,

PETITION IN RESPECT OF ELECTORAL AREA CO-ORDINATORS’ ELECTIONS IN KUMBUNGU CONSTITUENCY

We, the Electoral Area Coordinators’ Aspirants wish to express our discomfort regarding the recent happenings in the Great New Patriotic Party in our Constituency. It is our contention that elections ought to be held in all electoral areas where more than one-person express interest to contest and have accordingly filed to contest.

Since we filed to contest the impending elections on 14th and 15th of March, 2022, we are yet to receive any notice of timetable for the conduct of the Electoral Area Elections.

According to point 22 of the guidelines for the conduct of Electoral Area Coordinators’ Elections, vetting of prospective aspirants was scheduled to take place on 16th March, 2022 to pave way for the conduct of the elections which was to take place from 18th to 20th March, 2022. The same provision provides that, appeals (if any) shall be heard on 17th March, 2022.

As we write to you this Saturday, the 19th of March, 2022, we are yet to receive any information regarding the conduct of the elections.

Point 22 of the guidelines further provides that, prospective aspirants who feel aggrieved at any point in the elections process must exhaust all internal dispute resolution mechanisms in accordance with article 4 of the party’s constitution.

In view of the above, we call on the Constituency Executive committee, to as a matter of necessity clarify us on the state of the impending elections regarding

a) When prospective aspirants will be vetted.

b) when appeals will be heard (if any).

c) when elections will be conducted.

It is our considered view that the deafening silence of the elections committee is not only unacceptable but undemocratic.

Finally, we wish to assure you that we are law abiding Patriots, hence our resolve to invoke article 4 clause 8 sub-section 1 of the party’s constitution.

We anticipate your timely response. Thank you.
