Officials of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) are urging communities located along the White and Black Volta to relocate to higher grounds in anticipation of Spillage of the Bagre and Kompienga dams in Burkina Faso.
“Following report received from our development partners in Burkina Faso (SONABEL ENERGY) about the imminent spillage of the Bagre Dam in the coming days, we hereby wish to announce to the information of the general public to be on the alert and move to higher grounds”.
A press statement from NADMO said “the possibility of spillage is high since the current Bagre Dam level as at August 24, 2021 is 234.09m, as against the maximum spillage level of 235m”.
“The water level of the Bagre Dam seems to be rising rapidly, and the possible opening of the valves can start between August 27 and 30, 2021”, the statement added.
The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) said the alert “is to inform the general public, the communities along the White and Black Volta Lakes as well as our development partners to be on the alert, and to get all the communities who may be at risk to move to higher grounds”.
