Confusion seems to be ranging through the rank and file of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Savelugu Constituency in the Northern Region over the “fitness” of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to lead the party into the 2024 general elections.
Some of the polling station executives have therefore denied declaring their support for the Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s bid as the party’s 2024 Presidential candidate.
On Tuesday August 24, at the Savelugu Constituency Delegates Conference of the NPP, one Zakaria A Karim on behalf of the Polling Station Executives of the constituency declared their support for the Vice President’s presidential ambition.
But in a sharp rebuttal, the Savelugu New Town Mosque Polling Station Secretary, Abdullah Mustapha Deeshini revealed that the declaration by Zakaria A Karim was instigated by some self-seeking Regional Executives who were pushing their own agenda.
At a press conference in Savelugu, Abdullah Mustapha Deeshini told journalists “we wish to state categorically that he has no capacity to do what he did. We therefore ask the media and the public to threat the said declaration with contempt and valueless” he added.
Mustapha Deeshini added that “the polling station executives as well as Electoral Area Coordinators distance ourselves and abhor the said declaration”.
