The Member of Parliament for Karaga Constituency, Dr Mohammed Amin Adam has cut sod for the construction of a Police Station at Pishigu in the Karaga District.
The MP was joined by the caretaker District chief executive of Karaga District Alhassan Yebdow.
Speaking at a ceremony to commence the construction of the Police Station, the Karaga law maker said the purpose of the project is to improve the security within Pishigu and surrounding communities.
He revealed that three police stations Pishigu, Namang, and Yemo-Karaga are under construction, to improve security in the District.
The MP who is also the Deputy Minister of Energy, said security for the people were a priority hence he was making Police services accessible to the District.
He said the Contractor for the project has been given a 6month period to complete and hand over to the Police Command.
“My job is to lobby development for them, and this what I am doing,” Dr. Amin stated.
He posited that the choice of Pishigu in siting the Police Station is strategic adding Karaga District has recently reported a surge in crime, a situation he termed as worrying hence needed Police Stations to nip the situation in the bud.
Dr. Amin Adam urges leaders of political parties in the area to desist from interfering in the works of the security to enable them deal with law breakers in the area.
“I know my party people will not be happy but this is reality the interference of political parties is too much, we should stop interfering in the work of the police” he lamented.
He commended the chief of Pishigu, Naa Alhassan Andani for releasing land for the project.
Commenting on the issue of Islamic jihadist and other militants operating within neighboring West Africa countries, Dr Amin described this as worrying and called on the youth in the area not to allow themselves to be influenced or recruited to becoming jihadists.
The Divisional police commander for Karaga, Spt Alhaji Abdul – Latif Nbonwura, in his remarks praised the MP for initiating the project, saying this will match the yearning for more police personnel by the area.
The assembly man for Pishigu electoral area Fuseinin Haruna speaking on behalf of the people of Pishigu also said the Police Station at Pishigu will help curb crime in the community and bring more development.
The new Police Office complex will be financed through the MP and his partners including puma energy among others
