Gushegu: MCE warns persons who encroach on government lands of serious consequences

The Gushegu Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Yaja Dawuni Robert says management of the Gushegu Municipal Assembly have changed its approach in protecting state lands to include aggressively demolishing buildings and structures which have encroached on government lands in the area.

According to him the move was aimed at deterring others from encroaching on state lands, which were initially acquired for essential projects.

He said the indiscriminate encroachment and taking up of state lands within the Gushegu township was unacceptable and this is affecting development in the area to which the assembly faces series of difficulties when they plan to undertake a developmental project in the area.

“This is a very serious issue in this area. When government need land to execute a project because people have acquired government lands and have put up structures on it, there have been disturbances in this area relating to the assembly’s attempt to recover state lands which have been encroached on or taken up by unauthorized persons,” he lamented.

The Gushegu Municipal Chief Executive in an interview with diamondfmonline.com condemned the encroachment activities on government-owned lands in the Municipality saying his outfit is determined to take back all government lands.

“All means I will do to protect and take back all government lands within the Municipality, I will do it as an MCE, and not my power but the power invested in me by the central government, even if it comes to demolishing unauthorized structures on state land, I am ready to do it,” he warned.

Hon. Yaja Dawuni Robert, while giving the warning also called on the traditional rulers within the Gushegu traditional area to support the move by the management of the Gushegu Municipal Assembly to ensure sanity within the Municipality.

Diamonfmonline.com learnt that encroaching and taking up state lands is common within the Gushegu Municipality, it is reported that both the Gushegu Senior High School and the Municipal Health Directorate lands within the Gushegu township have been encroached upon.
