Delegates of the Northern Regional Football Association have by popular acclamation affirmed Alhaj Abu Hassan Mahamadu Rhyzo as the chairman of the association for the next four years.
At a short colourful ceremony on Friday morning at the GNAT Hall in Tamale, Alhaj Rhyzo who was standing unopposed received the endorsement of all the delegates except those who could not attend.
This is the second term that the incumbent Alhaj Rhyzo will serve as he was elected four years ago in a keenly contested election to manage the affairs of football in the region. He was the only candidate this time around as he filed at the end of the opening of nominations. A total of 105 out of 110 delegates in attendance affirmed him by popular acclamation.
Alhaji Rhyzo will have an opportunity to continue his strong start to the tenure for a second term having among other things maintained football pitches at Kaladan Park and Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium Annex, absorbed officiating fees of clubs in Women and juvenile football and also assisted the training of license D coaches in the region. He has also been instrumental in getting an additional slot for the Northern Region in the Women’s Premier League Zonal Playoffs.
The affable chairman who owns Tamale Soccer Angels has been hailed for his impartiality in the administration of the game in northern region since taking over four years ago.
In his acceptance remarks, Alhaj Rhyzo thanked the delegates for the honour done him and also pledged to commence work as soon as possible without any time to waste.
He said, “Thank you Northern Region, Thank you football fraternity. I must say I am highly honoured and highly delighted to be standing in front of you here this morning to receive the blessings and mandate that you have bestowed on me.”
He added that, “Four years ago, exactly on the 18th of October, 2019 the good people of Northern Region particularly the football fraternity decided to elect me as the regional chairman to serve the good people of Northern Region for four years. At the end of the four years, the good people of the Northern Region again, by Northern Region I am talking about Northern, North East and Savannah decided again that this time around they will allow me go unopposed. And I take that highly. And I think that this is an honour I will never forget and I will never take for granted.”
The Northern Regional Football Association has the Northern Region, North East and Savannah Regions under him and as part of his jurisdiction in terms of football.
The experienced football administrator and sports pundit for over two decades with Diamond FM Sports Desk will be serving his second term which is also his final tenure of office according to the 2019 statutes of the Ghana Football Association.
