Adubiliyili community demonstrates against Nedco/VRA, threatens to…

The chiefs and people of the Adubiliyili community, a suburb of the Tamale Metropolis, on Tuesday demonstrated against the Northern Electricity Distribution Company NEDCo/VRA over a malfunction transformer in the area.

The demonstration, which started at about 07:00-10:00 hours, saw the demonstrators march to the NEDCo substation located in the community.

They held placards some of which read: TWO MONTHS AGO NO LIGHT, NO LIGHTS NO ENTRANCE, among others.

Speaking to diamondfmonline.com after the demonstration, the chief of Adubiliyili, Naa Adam Fuseini stated that the community has been sleeping in darkness for over two months, adding “It all started when a devastating fire ravaged their transformer, plunging the area into darkness. NEDCo did step in and provide a replacement, raising hopes for a swift resolution. However, those hopes were dashed when the new transformer encountered a malfunction, leaving the community without electricity for over two months”.

He said all efforts to draw the attention of the management of NEDCo/VRA over the situation in his community proved futile, hence the agitation.

Naa Adam Fuseini, said the situation had affected his people most especially women who have to travel several kilometers to mill their flour in other communities. He said business activities also went down as a result of the current predicament the community found itself in.

The chief and his people thus give management of the Northern Electricity Distribution Company NEDCo/VRA  48 hours ultimatum to reconnect their community back to the national grid or face their wrath.

Naa Fuseini while expressing his frustration did not understand why management of NEDCo/VRA failed to fix the malfunction transformer in his community despite having a substation in the area.

“I will be forced to invoke curses on them because we never sold the land to them when they approached me put up this substation in this community,” he warns.

Some of the community members also shared their frustration, “they never stop giving us lights bills and we have been paying our lights bills despite sleeping in darkness for two months”, they claimed.
