MTN’s Yello Care reaches out to Tamale Youth and Hairdressers with Social Media Marketing Skills

Mobile Telecommunication giant, MTN-Ghana, as part of its Yello Care activities, has engaged some youth in entrepreneurship and women hairdressers and beauticians in the Tamale Metropolis by imparting them with digital training among other skills to better their livelihoods.

Close to 200 master craft-beauticians and hairdressers participated in the Yello Care activity at the Cultural Centre in Tamale, where they were encouraged to look beyond just posting their hairdos on line for likes or comments, but to focus on attracting more client base with their handiwork.

For the first time, the targeted craft women were exposed not only social media techniques, but also customer care, financial literacy and digital literacy particularly social media marketing where they can upload their talents unto social media platforms.

 Yello Care is an annual event done within 21 days, where MTN employees in all 16 regions of Ghana and in 21 countries, where MTN operates; give back six (6) hours of their working period, to community projects or activities that will lead to empowerment.

For two years, the Yello Care cause was put on hold due to the covid-19 pandemic however has been revived. This year’s Yello Care is themed; “Empowering local entrepreneurs to unlock growth and job creation for the communities.”

According to Collins Adjei, Northern Area Sales Manager for MTN, Y’ello Care is a volunteerism activity that is aimed at securing high participation levels of MTN staff in high impact social projects to uplift and empower the local communities in which the company operates.

In line with this campaign, under the Yello care, we are committed to empowering entrepreneurs particularly in underprivileged communities, by stimulating economic growth and also creating jobs. MTN is doing this by engaging youths in entrepreneurship training. Another focus is on women in action,” he stated.

Mr. Adjei explained that under the youth in entrepreneurship training, MTN targets youth-led businesses by bringing them into the digital space. They are exposed to customer care training, social media training and knowledge sharing.

We are doing this together with volunteer entrepreneurs in order to deliver enterprise solutions through simple book keeping and social media marketing using their smart phones.”

The Area Sales Manager of MTN said these exposures are geared towards empowering the youth to make sure they develop their talents and also have the tools to enable them market their products and handwork.

The goal is to create meaningful and sustainable impact in the communities, thereby creating a better future for all.” Mr. Adjei added.

The Organizing Secretary of the Progressive Hairdressers and Beauticians Association in the Northern Region, Madam Josephine Agyepong was grateful to MTN for such an eye-opener initiative saying they as hairdressers and beauticians can now take advantage of social media to market their works.
