Women urged to take advantage of upcoming local elections to ensure their inclusiveness in the Decision making process

Municipal Chief Executive for the Sagnarigu, Mariam Iddrisu has called on women to break the odds and galvanize the courage to contest the forthcoming local Assembly elections to ensure good governance and inclusiveness.

She urged women to take the challenge to contributing to the development process of Ghana through their participation and involvement in governance within their jurisdictions.

Speaking on the Diamond Power Drive, Mariam Iddrisu lamented that, out of the 23 Assembly members within the Sagnarigu Municipality, only two are elected women and that isn’t a fair representation of women in the Municipality.

She also noted that women are well-known to be effective in promoting honest governance; committed to promoting national and local policies that address the socio-economic and political challenges facing, children and other disadvantaged groups.

The Sagnarigu Municipal Chief Executive also expressed support for the move by the local government Ministry to have Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) elected in 2021.

She said this will ensure security of turner for such persons; enhance accountability and good governance at the local governance level.

Mariam Iddrisu however refused to confirm or deny rumour that she is nursing her ambitions to contest the first elections that seek to elect Metro, Municipal and District Chief Executives in Ghana.
