Finance Minister donates three dialysis machines to Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH)

The Minister of Finance, Mohammed Amin Adam Anta, has donated three new dialysis machines to the Dialysis Unit of the Tamale Teaching Hospital to help enhance health delivery services.

The hemodialysis machines is aimed at, complementing the already existing machines used in treating patients with kidney problems.

The donation is in fulfillment of a pledge the Minister made when he presented 10 polytanks to the management of the hospital towards addressing the water challenges of the facility.

It would be recalled that on April 9, 2024, the Minister after supporting the facility with 10 polytanks and GHc 100,000 towards the rehabilitation of the underground water system of the hospital also pledged to support the hospital with three new dialysis machines to address the difficulties kidney patients go through at the facility.

At a short meeting to handover the items to the management of the TTH, Dr Mohammed Amin, indicated that he was interested in supporting the facility with dialysis machines because the two dialysis machines that were centered at the unit were acute.

“Even though you have a challenge with equipment, that of the dialysis centered here has been acute, and therefore any support in that respect will go a long way to reduce the burden on you, and also on those who are seeking dialysis services; this was why I decided to continue to focus on dialysis machines”, he said.

“We all have a duty to contribute whatever we can in our various capacities towards the development of our country. Nobody is going to build this country for us. We have to build it ourselves. Therefore, we cannot fail to recognize the role the medical profession continue to play. When a nation is not healthy, that nation cannot be productive, and that nation cannot grow,. Therefore, government will stand by you at every stage of our development efforts to ensure that you have the resources and the manpower to be able to execute the services that you are providing to our people particularly in Tamale and the Northern part of Ghana in general. We need to be able to support you to do more”, he stated.

The Finance Minister in his remarks also indicated that as part of efforts towards addressing the water challenges at the facility, Vice President Dr Mahamadu Bawumia had directed the Ministry of Health to handover a water tanker, and an ambulance to the management of the hospital.

The minister while commending the management and staff of the hospital, also presented additional GHc 100, 000 to support the rehabilitation of the underground water system of the hospital.

On his part, the Chief Executive Officer of the hospital, Dr Atik Adam, who received the items expressed gratitude to the minister for the kind gesture.

He said the donation of the machines is timely since the number of kidney patients increases daily at the hospital.

“The latest addition of three dialysis machines to the unit is a welcoming news to the hospital. We commend and appreciate the Minister for donating the machines to complement the existing ones in the unit,” Dr. Atik said.
