Government commits to transforming Technical and Vocational Education – Barbara Ayisi,

A Deputy Minister for Education, Barbara Ayisi Asher has urged the public to change the mindset that technical and vocational education is the preserve for school drop outs and academically poor students.

According to her, the economic transformation and development of all countries depended on the technical ability of its human resource and that include giving premium to technical and vocational education.

She said in fulfilment of the NPP manifesto, government would provide two state of the art technical institutions all regions across the country to demonstrate the commitment to improving technical education in Ghana.

Speaking at the second and final day of the national policy summit, on technical and vocational education in Ghana, Mrs. Ayisi Asher said government is committed to giving TVET the needed attention.

The deputy minister also mentioned the use of obsolete and substandard tools, unregistered providers of TVET and teachers without the pedagogical skills to teach TVET as some of the challenges facing the sector.
She said poor linkage between training institutions and industries remains a challenge since many technical graduates are unable to utilize their skills in the industries.

Stakeholders during the plenary session called for increased investment and attention for the technical and vocational education training in Ghana to enable it turn out the needed human resources for national development.
