Walk-for-cure campaign hopes to rally some 50,000 persons on breast care awareness on October 27

The eighth Breast Cancer International (BCI) walk-for-cure campaign has been launched in Tamale with a call on Ghanaian women to regularly examine their breast and seek early medical help when they notice any lumps in their breasts.

The walk which is to increase awareness about breast cancer and celebrate survivorship would draw some 50 thousand participants, under the auspices of breast care international.

It is themed: “There is Hope, together we are stronger than cure, join us” and slated for the October, 27.

Speaking at a brief ceremony to launch the walk-for-cure campaign, President of breast care international and CEO of the peace and love hospital, Dr Beatrice Addai Wiafe stated that the walk for cure has in the last 8 years, assumed a national character thereby attracting people from all spheres of life.

She noted that, this signified an acceptance of the campaign nationally. Dr Addai Wiafe commenting on the breast care stated that, despite interventions by her outfit and others including government; socio-cultural beliefs and stigmatization remain a challenge to the fight against breast cancer.

Northern Regional Minister, Salifu Saeed, who chaired the occasion, stressed the need for women to take charge of their health by regularly checking their breast. He also tasked the media to prioritize breast cancer in their work.

Some survivors of breast cancer took turns to share their experiences with the participants.
