Community members of the Nyohini North electoral area of the Tamale Metropolis has insisted that they will not allow any store to be situated at the only dumping site, as it is been planned by some alleged traditional leaders in the area.
Thus, they have warn those planning to occupy the place to rethink because they will not hesitate to pour their waste and refuse on their stores, if they go ahead and mount the stores.
The dumping site located opposite the VIP bus terminal along the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium stretch has been allegedly sold to private business operator.
Alhassan Abdul Rauf speaking on behalf of the community members, commended the management of Tamale Metropolitan Assembly for evacuating the waste, saying they will not allow the city authorities to relocate the waste being to other place apart from its original position.
“We commend the Metro Assembly for coming to our aid to evacuate the waste. We want the container to be situated at its original place and no other place. If they refuse, and change it to a different location, we will still dump our waste and refuse here”, he warned.
Alhassan Abdul Rauf speaking on behalf of the community members also stated that they will not allow any traditional leader to sell the only dumping site in the area.
“We have also learnt that they are planning to put up stores here, which we are not ready to accept it. Whatever stores they kept here, the owners of the stores should be aware that whatever they put here, we are going to dump our waste refuse on their stores. This is not a place for stores. Whoever wants to buy or sell here, we are not going to accept it”, he stated.
The management of the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly led by MAYOR Sule Salifu has on Saturday 30 Oct 2021 started clearing the huge refuse dump along the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium road.
The Assembly took decision to cleared the heap refuse after series of complained by Tamale biggest media organization – Diamond FM.
The refuse site located opposite the VIP bus terminal along the sports stadium stretch, has been abandoned for several months after Zoomlion allegedly took the waste container away, because of some issues pertaining the allege selling of the site to private business operators.
