The Senior Officer of the Ghana National Gas Company, Mr. Emmanuel Asafo Adjei has Saturday 24th June, 2023 led a team to officially hand over a refurbished two-story dormitory block to the management of the Tolon Senior High School.
The renovation of the dormitory was an initiative of the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tolon constituency, Alhaji Habib Iddrisu, funded by Ghana National Gas Company (GNGC) aimed at promoting quality education in the school.
Now students at theTolon Senior High school, most especially the girls, can now have a decent accommodation to lay their heads on, after officially handing over of the well-furnished facility to the management of the school.
It would be recalled, that the two-story dormitory block, was raised down by fire outbreak on May 19, 2022, forcing the school management without an option than to turned a classroom to temporary dormitory for the students. However, the MP Alhaji Habib Iddrisu after visiting the school responded quickly by contacting Ghana National Gas Company for its renovation.
Based on a request by the Deputy Majority Chief Whip for support and subsequent approval by the GNGC in the same year, a technical team from Ghana Gas visited the school to ascertain the scope of work, cost of the project and provide recommendations on the way forward.
Following review of the recommendations and approval by the management of Ghana Gas company, the project began in earnest, in anticipation that the final refurbished building will provide some form of relief and lessen the plight of the special needs students at the school.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, the district chief executive of the Tolon District, Mr. Fuseini Salifu Issifu Moshie, on behalf of the management of the school, expressed his appreciation to the Ghana national gas company. “This great gesture by the Ghana national gas company has left an indelible mark in our minds, this is to say that, we will never forget this great honor done to us and we say “ti pagya pam”.
According to him, the school is facing a series of infrastructural deficits which needs more attention, hence, he asked for more support.
Mr. Fuseini Moshie, in his remarks, also expressed his gratitude to the Member of Parliament for Tolon constituency Alhaji Habib Iddrisu, for his effort towards ensuring the renovation of the dormitory. He highlights some of the developmental initiatives executed by the Tolon MP includes construction of school blocks, financial support, and other logistics to the various institutions in the district.
In his short remarks, the senior officer of Ghana National Gas company, Mr. Emmanuel Asafo Adjei, encouraged the school officials to ensure that the current standard of the dormitory is maintained. “Take extra care of the usage of this 8 facility so that future occupants can benefit from this investment,” he said.
On his part the paramount chief of the Tolon traditional area, Retard Naa Sulemana Abubakari, while commending the MP and Ghana National Gas Company for the gesture, also called on the management of the company to support the school authority to put up a security fence wall around the school.
