Tolon: ADB Donates Gh¢50,000 to support Tolon District Hospital

Management of the newly opened Tolon District Hospital has on Saturday 16, Jan 2022 taken receipt
of a GH¢50,000.00 donation from the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB).

The bank made the donation to support it in the effective running of the facility.

At the event to make the donation, the Deputy Managing Director of ADB Alhaji Alhassan Tali (NAWA Naa) who made the presentation on behalf of the Bank, said corporate social responsibility activities is a critical component of the Bank’s strategy of giving back to society, hence the support.

“We are here today to make a cash donation of Gh¢50,000 as further contribution to support the smooth operations of the hospital and helping to provide medical care to communities that visit the facility”, he said.

He indicated that, the Bank for the past years, has been extensively supporting communities across the country in the area of sports education, water and sanitation, health among others.

“In the area of health ADB distributed several Personal Protection Equipments (PPEs) to selected institutions across the country to help fight COVID-19 pandemic, “and this hospital was part of the beneficiary institutions that received the PPEs from the bank”, he added.

Alhaji Alhassan Yakubu Tali, in his brief remarks however, encouraged corporate institutions to continue to support development programs of institutions and communities in need.

The Deputy Northern Regional Director of Health Services, Dr Baba Abukari Braimah speaking on behalf of the Northern Regional Health Directorate, commended Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) for the gesture, saying “the facility despite its few resources, had provided a health care to about 250 people in less than two weeks, and had also done 20 deliveries of babies since its operationalization on Jan 4, 2022.

Dr Baba Abukari Braimah, while highlighting challenges facing the facility however, called on the DCE of Tolon Hon Musah Moshie and the MP of the area Alhaji Habib Iddrisu to intervene and support the Regional Health Directorate to have the clearance from the Ministry of Finance to enable them recruit a number of people to support the technical staff in the hospital.

On her part, the District Health Director of Tolon, Madam Joana Quarcoo, expressing her gratitude to the ADB Bank, said the support was very timely because the facility still needs series of logistics to operate effectively for the next six months or a year before getting its imbursement from the National Health Insurance.

She said, the support will go a long way to ensure a constant water supply within the facility and also ensure fuel into the stand by generator.

“This support was very timely because the area still has a lot of logistic challenges such as drugs, and consumables that the hospital still need to operate effectively. This donation will be used to support the running of this facility”, she said

Madam Joana in her remarks, however, complained that, the absent of a hospital pick up vehicle compels the management of the facility to use the Tolon District Ambulance to transport their consumables from the Central Medical Stores in Tamale to the facility. “This is not the best practice”, she laments.

Meanwhile, the member of parliament for Tolon Constituency, Alhaji Habib Iddrisu, in his short presentation, pledge to support the hospital with a mechanized borehole to address the water challenges within the facility.

He also promise to install street lights within the hospital to enhance visibility at night.

The Tolon legislature while making these pledge also said his outfit for the past few months has made several support to the facility, including Gh¢60,000 seed capital, 100 pieces of Anti-Snake Serum among others.
