Tamale Metropolitan Assembly Budgeted GH¢ 400,000 for Rehabilitation of Tamale Youth Home 

Management of the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) led by Mayor Sule Salifu, through the Social Cohesion (SOCO) project, has budgeted GH¢ 400,000 for the rehabilitation and facelift of the dilapidated Tamale Youth Home facility. 

The Tamale Metropolitan Chief Executive of (TaMA) disclosed this when he led some staff of the Assembly to the facility on Monday October 23, 2023, and handed over the documents to the contractor to begin the project. 

According to him, the project would include rehabilitation of the changing rooms, construction of urinal and toilet facilities and other ancillary facilities to make the centre attractive adding, “we will furnish the facility with computers and other logistics. We want to make it attractive, in as much as we want to make more revenue from the facility. It is important for the assembly to ensure all the necessary tools are put in place and that is what we are doing.”

In his short remarks, Mayor Sule Saifu indicated that, the Tamale Youth Home since its establishment between 1908 and 1909 has never witnessed a major maintenance, and this has affected the assembly income generation for the past decades as far as tourism is concern hence the rehabilitation. 

He said the assembly is committed to secure a better future for the youth within the Tamale metropolis through arts and culture to protect them from any bad influence. 

“We want to engage our youth in a very active and productive sectors so that their minds will not be bought by criminal elements who are disturbing our neighbouring countries’ ‘.

Honorable Sule Salifu while highlighting the importance of Youth Home, also commended President Akufo Addo and the Minister of Local Government Honorable Dan Botwe for including Tamale Metropolitan Assembly on the Social Cohesion (SOCO) project.

He thus urged the contractor to stick to the timelines agreed for the project.

On his part, the contractor of the Chariyu Company, Abdul Rahaman, assured the management of the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly that the projects being undertaken by his group would be done within the stipulated time frame. 

However, management of the Tamale Youth home on their part also commended the management of the assembly for the gesture.
