An aide to Vice Presidents Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Akbar Yussif Rohullah Khomeini has taken swipe at the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful Honorable Kennedy Agyapong for claiming to have helped some NPP Members of Parliament (MPs) in the Northern Region but they turned against him during his Presidential bid.
The Assin Central MP Honorable Kennedy Agyapong, feels disappointed at the NPP MPs in the Northern Region for betraying him after claiming to have helped them to secure their parliamentary seats in the last general elections.
According to him, all the NPP MPs in the Northern Region, most especially Tolon, Mion and Yendi whom he has helped to be MPs today, have turned against him during his presidential bid.
However, responding to this claim, the Aide to Vice President Akbar Yussif Rohullah Khomeini, denied, Kennedy Agyapong claims saying, “He Ken never spent One cedi in Tolon. In fact, when he got to Tolon, he didn’t even have money. He borrowed money from Habib”, he alleged.
Speaking on Diamond Power Drive on Monday October 23, 2023, Mr. Khomeini while disputing Kennedy Agyapong’s claim, indicated that, “a very intelligent mind will ask himself this question; I did this for this parliamentary candidate to be MP. Why is that they are all supporting the Vice President? What is that the Vice President did for them? That is how an intelligent mind will think. Because you only know what you did, but you don’t know what the other person have done. So, you cannot say that just merely on the strength of what you did, they must support you”.
“He specifically cited Aziz of Mion. He Ken got to know Aziz when he became a parliamentary candidate. And, before Aziz emerges as parliamentary candidate Dr. Bawumia was supporting him til the last night of the elections. So, if Aziz will be truthful to his conscience there is no way he will support you (Ken) over Bawumia. Everything he claim he has done for Aziz, I know on authority. He said he spent Ghc40,000 in Aziz’s constituency; I can say it on authority that Dr. Bawumia spent five times of that in Mion. You have spent 40, 000 and you think that the guy should become your man, when you don’t know how much the Vice President has spent. So, that is why I said he (Ken) is not intelligent”, he said.
Mr. Khomeini stated that, prior to the last general elections, Veep Dr Mahamudu Bawumia extended support to all the 275 NPP parliamentary candidates.
“You see all the 275 NPP parliamentary candidates who contested in 2012, 2016, 2020, there is no single constituency parliamentary candidate that Dr. Bawumia never supported, including Kennedy Agyapong himself. Dr. Bawumia supported him with money, brand new pick up and a laptop; however, he is not supporting Dr Bawumia. Has Bawumia called him ungrateful? So, what makes him think that by spending 40, 000 in Mion Aziz should become his slave?”, he quizzed.
Mr. Khomeini further narrated that, “when it comes to the politics of Yendi, what Dr. Bawumia invested in the parliamentary bid of Faruk is ten times more than what Ken claims to have done in Yendi. Name any constituency and I can tell you Dr Bawumia invested ten times what Ken claimed to have done in the northern region. He should be careful the way he rants over his claim of helping people”, he advised.
