Northern Trade, Industrial and Investment Summit launched in Tamale

Centre for Policy Development and the Northern Regional Coordinating Council, in Partnership with the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA), Ghana Investment Promotion Authority, Ghana Free Zone Authority, Ghana Enterprise Agency, Ghana Exim Bank, and Ghana Revenue Authority has on Tuesday December 20, 2022, launched the Northern Trade, Industrial and Investment Summit.

The summit is scheduled to run from 1st to the 5th of March 2022.

The five days summit is dubbed, “Improving Trade, Industry and Investment in Northern Ghana Through Capacity Building”.

The summit seeks to create a platform that will bring businesses together in a bid to develop their capacity in the various sectors of trade and industry.

The Executive Director of Centre for Policy Development Ismail Yahuza, made this known at the media launch of the Northern Trade, Industrial and Investment Summit in Tamale.

He hinted that the summit will include trade and exhibition fair, seminars, business awards night to climax the events and cultural durbar.

According to him, the Northern part of Ghana is lacking behind in terms of production of key commodities, export commodities, so far as the national output is concern hence, the Northern Trade and Investment Summit.

He thus called on stakeholders in the Northern Region to support the organizers to ensure a successful Norther Trade and Investment Summit as it has a potential of improving the livelihood of the people and raising their living standards as well as closing the gap between the North and the South.

The Northern Regional Minister Alhaji Shani Alhassan Shaibu, who official launch the summit, in his key note address said Northern Region is hungry for investment therefore, there is the need for more efforts to attract the necessary investors.

He noted that, attracting investments into region and for that matter Municipalities and Districts, require concerted action from players and stakeholders in the regions to provide the necessary conducive environment as well as innovative strategies.

He said, the region is blessed with abundant natural and agricultural resources which when enhanced would position it as an industrial and tourism hub of the country.

“I dare say that it therefore behoves on us to take practical steps to maximise the benefits of these resources taking a cue from other developed countries who had less than what we have. But we are still able to break out of their challenges to where ever they find themselves today”, he added.

The Chief Executive Officer of the GEPA Dr. Afua Asabea Asare in her remarks said, the National Export Developments Strategy which was formulated and launched in 2020 will provide strategic direction for Ghana’s none traditional exports for the next ten years.

She said the implementation of the activities of the strategy is expected to earn the country 23.5 billion dollars.
