N/R: Gushegu MP, Hassan Tampuli supports 150 tertiary students with GHC140,000

The Member of Parliament for Gushegu Constituency, Alhaji Hassan S. Tampuli has, on Friday 28th January, 2022 presented an amount of GHC140,000 to over 150 beneficiary students from his constituency across all accredited tertiary institutions in the country.

The extension of support to these students were in fulfillment of the MP campaign promise during the last general elections.

The Gushegu legislature who is also a Deputy Transport Minister, in the run-up to the 2020 general elections, promise to establish an Education Fund through which he will be using 50% of his MP’s salary to support students of the constituency.

Though the Education Endowment Fund is yet to be inaugurated, the MP has given out an amount of GHC 140,000 (1.4 billion old cedis) to support the students in his constituency.

This is the second time the MP is supporting the needy but brilliant students in his constituency. This year’s initiative has seen 131% increase in the number of students from 65 last year to over 150 students this year.

Diamondfmonline.com understands the MP’s Special Initiative of Education support and in some cases, sponsorship is the first of its kind in the Gushegu Constituency.

It would be recalled that, the MP in March 2021 paid the school fees of some 46 students in his constituency. Mr Tampuli in an interview said he has spent about GHC 60,000 on the school fees.

The Member of Parliament for Gushegu Constituency, through Tullow Oil Ghana Ltd, also in August 25th, 2021 offered opportunities to about 15 students in his constituency to be trained at the Regional Maritime University.

According to him, his priority as an MP is to empower the youth through education indicating that education is the key to human development, and to see development in the Gushegu constituency, there was the need to support needy but brilliant students in the constituency.

Mr Tampuli emphasized his readiness to support students who are willing to further their education at the highest level.
