MP for Tolon extends electricity to seven (7) communities in his constituency

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Tolon Constituency in the Northern Region, Alhaji Habib Iddrisu, has extended electricity to seven (7) more communities under the rural electrification project (REP) to boost social and economic activities of the people.

The communities include Lingbung Yizhegu, Tolon Nafarang, Kurugu Vuhiyayili, Wayamba Nyoring, Adumbiyili, Aseiyili, and Kaashegu.

These communities form part of the 21 communities the MP earmarked to be connected to the national grid.

Street lights were installed in all the beneficiary communities.

Residents of the communities were thrown into a state of ecstasy when a street light was turned on at their various communities to indicate the connection of the communities to the national grid.

Addressing the chiefs and people at separate durbars, the MP who doubled as Deputy Majority Chief Whip, indicated that extending electricity to the communities were in fulfillment of his campaign promise during the 2020 general elections.

The Deputy Majority Chief Whip in his remarks said, the residents of the beneficiary communities previously had to travel several kilometers to charge their mobile phones or mill their flour in other communities, but with the advent of electricity, not only will they be able to solve their basic problems, but they will also be able to boost economic activities in the area.

He said the connection of the communities to the national grid would pave way for many developmental projects to be established alongside hopes of improving academic performance in the area.

Expressing his excitement over the project, the Tolon law maker, reiterated his commitment towards ensuring Tolon constituency attain a 100% electricity coverage in the Northern Region.

“I am determining to connect all the communities within my constituency onto the national grid before 2024″.

Addressing the media after the inaugural ceremony, the MP also advice the chiefs and people of the beneficiary communities to take proper care of power and desist from using electrical cables not certified by energy commission.

He also urged the people to pay their bills promptly to avoid been disconnected by NEDCo and also to enable the power suppliers to generate more revenue to extend power to other communities in the area.

The residents who have been traveling long-distance to charge their mobile phones gave thanks to the MP for connecting their communities on to the national grid.

“We are very happy. Honorable Habib Iddrisu has done well. God bless him, because we never knew today, we will see electricity here. In fact, Honorable Habib has shown us love and we will show him back when the time comes”, they assured.

On his part, the chief of Lingbung Yizhegu Naa Amadu Salifu, expressed his gratitude and asked God to bless the MP.

“We have been yearning for this day for far too long. We thank you very much for your efforts, we will never forget about your efforts,” he said.
