Kwabena Agyepong donates GH₵1000 at Jones Alhassan Abu’s funeral

A former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong on Sunday made a personal donation of GH₵1000 to the family of the late Jones Alhassan Abu.

The renowned politician showed his continued interest in sports especially football when he sent a delegation comprising of personal assistants Mohammed Mashud (Whereabouts) and Alhaj Badawi who did the donation on his behalf as he had other equally important matters to attend to in the nation’s capital.

The late Jones Alhassan Abu until his untimely death on 10th August, 2021 in Ivory Coast was a member of the Division One League Board and Black Stars Management Committee. He was a key figure in the committee that drafted the Ghana Football Association’s Statutes in 2019.

His funeral therefore had the football fraternity and politicians alike in attendance including former president John Dramani Mahama.

Ing. Kwabena Agyepong was heavily involved in football issues in the 1990s and early 2000s. Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong was a member of the Executive Council of the GFA from 1997-2000, a Member of the Black Meteors Management Committee during Barcelona 1992 and Atlanta 1996 and a Member of the International Relations Committee of the FA during Joe Lartey’s administration and a Press Secretary to President John Agyekum Kufuor from 2001-2006.

In the period of normalization after the Anas Aremeyaw Anas expose his name came up as one of the people to have led the football association after then president Kwesi Nyantakyi was suspended.
