John Mahama and Prof. Nana Opoku Agyemang are the NDC’s pair for 2020!

Former president and flagbearer for the NDC’s ticket in the 2020 elections, John Dramani Mahama has for a running mate, Professor Jane Naana Opuku Agyemang.

The academic, came up stronger from a list of equally distinguished personalities including Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, Nii Moi Thomspon, Ewua Darko and Prof Kwesi Botchwey.

The National Executive Committee of the NDC unanimously, endorsed Mr. Mahama’s choice of Prof Opoku Agyemang as his running mate for the December 2020 election.

John Mahama in a facebook post said “Prof. Nana Opuku Agyemang is a God fearing, distinguished scholar a, a conscientious public servant and a role model.”

Over the weekend, the NDC’s flagbearer and the party’s founder Jerry John Rawlings had a closed door meeting which according to John Mahama; discussed issues of particular concern to the party. He described the meeting with Mr. Rawlings as very fruitful.

The pair – John Mahama and Nana Opoku Agyemang will face off with the NPP’s Nana Akuffo Addo, the sitting president and Dr. Mahamoud Bawumia in the December 7 polls.

Naana Opuku Agyemang aged 69, became the first female Vice Chancellor of a public University; the University of Cape Coast between 2008-2012 and later, a minister of Education under the John Mahama government.

She is a product of Wesley Girls High School in Cape Coast, the University of Cape Coast where she read English for Undergrad and obtained her Masters and Doctorate degrees from York University in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Aside her many academic publications, she’s sat on several boards including UNESCO, CDD-Ghana, the Editorial Board of The Harriet Tubman Series on the African Diaspora (Africa World Press Inc. USA), the Africa Initiative in Canada and the College of Physicians and Surgeons as Eminent Citizen. Prof. Opoku Agyemanng is a two times Fulbright fellow.

She has also received the Officer of the Order of the Volta award for Academic Distinction and Ghana Women of Excellence Award in the Education category.

In the run up to the 2012 general elections, Jane Opoku Agyemang co-moderated a president debate with Kojo Oppong Nkrumah under the auspices of the Institute for Economic Affairs (IEA) with now EC chair, Jean Mensah, then as the Executive Director of the IEA.
