Three Nigerian females arrested in Tamale for Human Trafficking offence.


Personnel from the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) in the Northern Region, aided by the police have arrested three females Nigerians nationals for human trafficking.

The main suspect, Chioma, aged 31, is said to have trafficked the other two named withheld from Nigeria about a month ago, through the Aflao border into Ghana under the false promise of running a boutique for her.

According to Assistant Commissioner of Immigration, E. Kofi Owusu, who is the Northern Regional Commander of Immigration, the victims, aged 23, and 26 were lured into the country by, Chioma, but upon their arrival in Tamale, she pushed them into prostitution as a mean of survival. They were also to engage in the illegal trade in order to repay expenses she incurred in transporting them to Tamale. Each of the girls owed her about 8000 cedis.

The young ladies, who told immigration officials that they have been unable to meet the daily target of 100 cedis, except to make only 10 cedis daily, added that, these compelled their Madam and her Ghanaian boyfriend to physically assault them regularly.

Meanwhile the victims have been sent to Immigration headquarters in Accra while the suspect Chioma, is said to be on admission at the Tamale Teaching Hospital where she is recuperating from a relapsed after undergoing an abortion a day earlier to her arrest.

Immigration authorities say, she would be sent to Accra immediately she is discharged from hospital.
