Hajj Board announce creation of fingerprint database for pilgrims in Ghana
The Executive Secretary of the Ghana Hajj Board, Alhaji Farouk Hamza, has announced the creation of a fingerprint database for prospective pilgrims of Ghana for this year’s Hajj process.
According to him, this is part of measures the board had put in place to stem the tide of infiltrators by Ghanaian visa Abusers and illegal immigrants into the fold of genuine pilgrims in Saudi Arabia.
Alhaji Farouk expressed hope that the database will go a long way to help the Hajj Board authority to identify undesirable elements and weed them out.
The Executive Secretary of Hajj Board mentioned this in an interaction with the management and other members of the Board ahead of this year’s Hajj process.
Alhaji Farouk while highlighting the importance of the fingerprint thus, encouraged all stakeholders most especially the pilgrims to support the Hajj Board Secretariat to stop the infiltrators by raising alarm when strangers are detected in their midst in Saudi Arabia.
“Such infiltration is one of the challenges the Hajj management face in Saudi Arabia every year, and this has created logistics challenges by increasing the number of pilgrims beyond the official one, ” he stated.
It would be recalled that, Ghana’s Hajj Board led by its eŋxecutive Secretary, Alhaji Farouk Hamza, for the first-time organized orientation exercise to sensitize prospective pilgrims across the country.
The orientation exercise aimed at preparing the prospective pilgrims psychologically for the all important journey of Hajj which is one of the pillars in Islam.
A total of 6,000 pilgrims are expected to be flown from Ghana to Saudi Arabia for the pilgrimage this year.
The inaugural flight is scheduled to take place at the Tamale International Airport on Friday June 9, 2023.
