The Overlord of Dagbon Ndan Yaa-Naa Abukari II, has charged the leadership of Dagbon Youth Association (DAYA) to ensure they picked energetic and enthusiastic members who can sacrifice their time and resources to represent the youth of Dagbon.
According to the King, the kingdom is building and maintaining the existing peace within the Dagbon traditional area and this cannot be achieved without the activities and participation of the youth hence, it is important for leadership to nominate energetic and enthusiastic men and women to lead the youth front to enable Dagbon traditional area achieved its mandate.
“DAYA had always been at the forefront of important developments in our history, and it was a shame this organization became inactive for such a long time. Now, I can be rest assured that DAYA is coming alive again and will be in the lead to build and maintain our fragile peace and create a conducive environment for the development of Dagbon”, he said.
The overlord of Dagbon made this call at the Extraordinary Delegates Conference organized by the Dagbon Youth Association (DAYA) on Saturday June 4, 2022.
The congress was seeking among other things, to deliberate on proposals for the nomination of new executives who would steer the affairs of the association. The participants include Chief of Zangbalin Naa Jacob Mahama, old and current executives of DAYA, opinion leaders, youth of Dagbon among others.
However, the King of Dagbon in a speech read on his behalf while commending the leadership of DAYA, also said “my second admonition is about the threat of divisions amongst you. It’s a big advantage if we have several groups within Dagbon, that all try to champion the good of Dagbon. But let’s all remember that there is only one DAYA that officially represent Dagbon.
He said the other youth group should be seen as satellite groups supporting DAYA and not as rival groups. “Dagbon has suffered and continue to suffer because of Abudu and Andani division, and we wouldn’t want to fuel it with divisions amongst our youth. Let’s always remember, we all have the same goal for Dagbon: PEACE, UNITY and DEVELOPMENT”.
The King in his address, also call on the leadership of DAYA to ensure there will be a rep from the two major royal families Abudu and Andani. “It shouldn’t be skewed to favor one family over the other. This way your resolution will be considered impartial”, he said.
Meanwhile, the President of Dagbon Youth Association DAYA, Adam Baba Issifu in his welcoming address, encourage the youth in Dagbon to put more effort into their education to enable them enhance their competencies to serve Dagbon Kingdom when the need arises.
He said the youth have a major role to play by assisting the King and his Chiefs to maintain the existing peace within the Dagbon traditional area hence, it is prudent for the youth to avoid drug abuse as that will ruin their future well-being.
