Tamale Central: MP cut sod for construction of a Modern Health facility at Sakasaka

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale Central Constituency, Ibrahim Mohammed Murtala has cut sod for the construction of a Modern Health Center at Sakasaka a suburb of Tamale Metropolis in the Northern Region.

The facility will have laboratory, male and female ward, a delivery room, quarantine centre, an out patient department (OPD) among others.

The project expected to be completed within four to five months, would provide residents of Sakasaka and its adjoin communities access to quality primary healthcare, solving the challenge of traveling long distance for basic healthcare services.

Addressing residents during a sod-cutting ceremony for commencement of work, the Tamale Central MP, Ibrahim Mohammed Murtala reiterated his commitment to achieving universal health coverage for his constituents hence, the continuous investment and lobbying in that respect.

Speaking to the media after the event, Comrade Ibrahim Murtala said, “for a number of years now the community have been craving for a health facility to improve accessibility”.

“The entire community which is housing over 20,000 people don’t have health facility closer to them, and we are very lucky the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) gives us this particular land and we cut the sod today for work to be commence, I am hoping that within 4 to 5 months the project will be completed. We are not doing it from the MP Common’s Fund. Just a little resource we have gotten that we are pushing to see how best we can do to improve the health care delivery”, he stated.

He indicated that Sakasaka Health Centre project is one of the activities he undertakes in the area of health within the constituency to bring health care delivery to the doorsteps of the people. 

“The provision of this facility is in fulfillment of a pledge I made before winning the 2020 general elections”, he said.

He has therefore entreated the community members to own the project by assisting the contractor to execute and complete the project on scheduled time.

The Tamale Central legislator during the handover ceremony said his outfit has initiated series of developmental projects which include construction of Health Centres, construction of mechanized boreholes, free extra classes for 2021 final year JHS students, and provision of financial support to 10 medical students.

On his part, the Tamale Metropolitan Health Director Dr. Hilarious Abiu, expressed gratitude to the MP for his continues commitment towards ensuring health care delivery, and are closer to his people within the Tamale Metropolis.

“We are extremely grateful to the MP, because all what we know about the MPs are that, they simply made a promise and run away, but virtually all the promises that he made to us within this shortest period are coming to light; that is the difference”, he said.

Dr. Hilarious Abiu, in his remarks also encourage residents within the Metropolis, to participate the ongoing COVID-19 vaccination exercise to get vaccinated to prevent them from contacting the deadly diseases.

Meanwhile, the Chief of Choggu traditional area, Naa Mahamadu on his address, commended the MP for initiating such project to support his people. The Chief while raining praises on the MP also encourage other Northern MPs to try and emulate the achievements of the Tamale Central legislator and make the region proud.
