Deputy Majority Chief Whip Habib Iddrisu extends electricity to overseas communities in Tolon

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Tolon Constituency Alhaji Habib Iddrisu, has extended electricity to overseas communities within the Tolon district in the Northern Region.

The beneficiary communities include Zantani, Gunsibong, Naa kuraa and Shaharu Kuraa.

They formed part of the 21 communities the MP for Tolon has earmarked to be connected to the national grid through the government’s Self Help Electricity Project (SHEP).

Street lights were installed in all the beneficiary communities.

The project, an initiative of the MP was fully funded by the Government of Ghana (GOG), is aimed at enhancing the economic and social lives of the people.

Inaugurating the project, the Tolon MP who is also the Deputy Majority Chief Whip in Parliament said the intervention was in fulfilment of his campaign promise during the 2020 general elections.

“When I made the pledge during the 2020 general elections, about this electrification project, many people were doubting me. But here we are today to inaugurate the project”, he said.

“I have been able to initiate and execute two out of three developmental issues concerning the people of Zantani laid before me in less than two years in parliament, and they can attest to that”, he added.

He said his outfit will ensure that every community in the Tolon district which had no electricity will be connected to the national grid by 2024.

The Deputy Majority Chief whip stated this was to open up the entire district for the establishment of cottage industries, and to also promote commercial activities in the area.

He said, residents of the beneficiary communities most especially women who used to travel several kilometers to mill their flour in other communities, will be a tin of the past.

He thus urges the chiefs and people of the beneficiary communities to engage certified electricians for their electrical wiring and desist from using electrical cables not certified by the Energy Commission.

Mr Habib Iddrisu also reiterated his commitment towards ensuring a total development within the Tolon District.

On his part, the Deputy Energy Minister, who is also a Member of Parliament for Karaga constituency, Mohammed Amin Adam Anta, commended the chiefs and people of the beneficiary communities for supporting the contractor to finish the work in time.

Mr. Amin Anta, while calling on the chiefs and people of the beneficiary communities to form a task force team to be monitoring the electrical poles within their localities, also urge them to continue to vote for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and its MPs to enable him transform the area.

Meanwhile, women and children of Zantani Gunsibong, Naa kuraa, and Shaharu kuraa where the MP switched on the lights to signify the inauguration of the electrification project, could not hide their joy and excitement as they danced and sang their hearts out.

A resident of Zantani, Ayesha Abdalla, told diamondfmonline.com in an interview that with electricity now in their community, she was going to open a shop to sell water and non-alcoholic beverages to supplement the income of her family.

Mohammed Ibrahim, also a resident at Zantani, said it would enable students and pupils in the community to study in the night to enhance their academic performance.

The Chief of Zantani Naa Yakubu Abdul Aziz, on his part expressed his gratitude and asked God to bless the MP.

The ceremony was attended by the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Tolon, Deputy Energy Minister, both Regional and Constituency NPP executives among others.

Tthe Tolon legislator as part of his efforts towards uplifting the face of his constituency has within one and half year in office initiated and completed series of developmental projects within his constituency.
