8 Fulani Herdsmen killed at Zakoli, laid to rest

The Eight Fulani herdsmen who were gruesomely killed by unknown assailants at Zakoli a suburb of Yendi Municipality of the Northern Region, have been laid to rest according to Islamic rites.

The bodies were released to the families for burial after autopsies were conducted on them at the Tamale Teaching Hospital.

Janaza prayers were observed for them before the burial ceremony at the Vitting cemetery of the Tamale Metropolis.

Hundreds of residents in the Tamale Metropolis trooped to the cemetery to pay their last respect to the deceased.

The Eight Fulani men include three siblings Umar Jallo, Kadir Jallo, and Yahaya Jallo, were killed during a violent attack at Zakoli near Yendi Municipality on Wednesday April 13, 2022.

Several others also sustain gunshot wounds, while properties worth tens of thousands were destroyed during the attack.

Some unknown gunmen suspected to be Konkombas attacked Fulani community in Zakoli in a ‘Rambo style’, and killed Eight people.

It is still not clear what could have triggered the attack on the Fulani people, but some natives of the community suspected a retaliation of an earlier robbery attack on a young man which led to his death at Zagbang on the Yendi Zabzugu road.

Family members of the victims have called on the police to ensure that justice is served by letting the culprits face the law to deter others.
