RESIDENTS OF CHASHEI COMMUNITY CRY FOR PORTABLE WATER

Chashei a farming community in the Tamale metropolis has been hit hard by a recurring water crisis.

This has compelled the over three hundred households in Chashie to drink from the same contaminated dugout water with their animals.

The village folks, most especially the women and children have to walk more than half a mile to fetch the stagnated water located around a rice farm.

The residents in an interview with Diamond News said they always noticed dirty substances on the water’s surface especially in the rainy season where the water carries garbage including baby diapers and other unwanted materials into their only source of domestic water.

According to the residents despite their consistent appealed to the management of the Tamale metro Assembly, their concerns are yet to addressed.

The Chashie community has however appealed to Member of Parliament of the area to collaborate with the management of Tamale Metro Assembly to address the water challenge confronting the community.

‘’We know there is dirt in water but we do not have an option than to take it like that, there is community stand pipe but it only flows once a month. We see baby diapers, used pillows and other unwanted waste materials in the water which tells us that it is contaminated, but what can we do?’’

“We lack potable water here and the water is muddy which ends up infecting us with all kinds of diseases. Our roads are also in terrible conditions which hinder access to other communities. We are suffering immensely, hence our cry for help,” another resident complained.

The assemblyman of the Chashei electoral area, Haruna Abu in an interview with Diamond News said his outfit is working closely with management of the TMA to end the annual water challenge at Chashei.

Meanwhile the communication officer of the TaMA, Issah Musah Salifu commenting on the issue said management of the Assembly had put up some strategic measures in place to address the water problem in the Community of Chashei.
