Nurse accused of raping Italian woman at Damongo freed

A Tamale District court has freed Ernest Green, a nurse at the Damongo Catholic hospital who was at the center of a rape case involving an European tourist.

The court presided over by His Worship Anthony Asaah discharged Ernest Green for want of evidence against him.

The Attorney General’s department advised the court to discharge the accused, owing to the lack of enough evidence for his prosecution.

It will be recalled that, Ernest Green was accused in April of raping an Italian tourist who had reported at the Damongo Catholic hospital for malaria treatment.

The court at the beginning refused to take the plea of the suspect and remanded him into police custody to enable the Police conclude their investigations, but that yielded no evidence.

The Ernest Green is expected to resume work at the Damongo hospital at a later date.
