NDC sympathizes with Bagre Dam spillage victims

The Executive committee of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Northern Region has expressed worry over the annual flooding in the region.

In a press statement that also expressed the NDC’s sympathy to the victims of the recent flooding in the region, the party also called for action from government to halt the perennial flooding situation in the area.

Several locations in Northern Ghana are becoming flooded after the spillage of BAGRE DAM, and torrential rain that lasted over a week in the region. 7 people reportedly lost their lives while several properties and farmlands have been submerged.

Addressing the media, the Regional secretary of the NDC, SALISU BE-AWURIBE, expressed unhappiness about the Nana Addo led administration for failing to respond quickly to the recent flooding in the region.

He lament that despite the destructions and damages caused by the flooding in the region, the Vice president Dr Alhaji Mahamadu Bawumia spent two days in the region, but failed to visit the affected Districts and communities to see how the flood victims were fairing.

The regional secretary of the NDC wants the NPP to revisit John Mahama’s plan to build a hydro cum Irrigation Dam at Pwalugu to absorb excess water from the BAGRE spillage.

He revealed that the NDC members of parliament of the affected District in the northern region have since released relief items to be distributed among the victims.

Meanwhile vice President Dr Alhaji Mahamadu Bamwumia, in a speech at the closing ceremony of BAMBAWIA 22, annual end of TAFSIIR, stated that Government after consulting the engineers has decided to construct a dam at Pwalugu to trap the water from the Bagre Dam to end the annual flooding in the three regions of the North.
