According to the club, assistant coach Johnson Smith takes over immediately as the interim head coach until a substantive is appointed.

News of the dismissal of Maxwell Konadu came on Friday morning after their 1-0 defeat to Accra Great Olympics in the Ghana Premier League on Thursday, December 17th 2020.

Coach Johnson Smith has been appointed to lead the team in the interim.”

The above announcement was accompanied by a thank you message with Maxwell Konadu’s picture.

This is the thirtieth coach in the last twenty years that Kotoko have sacked bringing to question the patience of successive management teams of Kotoko.

Reports have it that the management intends to put before the board names of about four coaches should they decide to maintain a Ghanaian.

Former Black Starts Coach Kwesi Appiah, former Black Meteors (Ghana Under 23 male team) coach Ibrahim Tanko, Coach Ignatius Osei Kofi of Techiman Eleven Wonders and Annor Walker of Accra Great Olympics, the coach whose team’s defeat served as the last straw to hit the camel’s back.

It still remains unclear the fate of Maxwell Konadu’s backroom staff which includes assistant coach Abdulai Gazale from Tamale.

The team will meanwhile lock horns with Al Ahly Tripoli in the Caf Champions League next.
