Basic schools from the Tamale Metropolitan area, Yendi Municipal, Bole district, East Mamprusi District, Nanumba North Municipal, Tatale/Sanguli District, Sawla /Tuna / Kalba District, Mion District among others are poised for action.

At the opening ceremony, the Northern Regional minister, Honourable Mr Salifu Saeed indicated that the essence of the competition was to promote and enhance a strong bond of friendship, brotherhood and love among the sports boys and girls. His speech was read on his behalf.

He urged the selected athletes to be dedicated, respectful and obedient ambassadors of the region when the onus lies on them to represent the region and noted that physical education if well planned and effectively taught in the schools could help retain the school going age and rid the cities and towns of dropouts.

He employed the athletes to respect the rules and regulations of the competition and not to take the law into their own hands when things don’t go their way.

Host Yendi Municipal managed a narrow 1-0 victory over East Gonja to ensure they give the home fans something to be happy about. It however remains to be seen if they would continue the good start for the home fans.
