The Overlord of Dagbon Yaa–Naa Abukari Mahama II has called on Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to step in and assist President Nana Akuffu Addo to complete Tamale, Yendi water project.

According to him, the stalled projects had led to an increase of water crises within the area.

“The people of Dagbↄŋ and, I must say, the Northern Region were indeed happy that your government had secured funding for the Tamale and Yendi Water Supply projects, on which work was scheduled to commence in earnest. However, these projects have stalled, leading to an increase of water crisis for the people”.

“We would be grateful for your intervention in resolving the bottleneck”, he stated.

The Lion King made these remarks when Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the 2024 Presidential candidate of NPP called on the Regional House of Chiefs on Thursday May 16, 2024 as part of his nationwide campaign tour in the Northern Region.

The Dagbon King indicated that the government decision to ameliorate the suffering of the people of the region couldn’t have come at a right time, because the expansion of both projects could have ended the current rationing system adopted by the Ghana Water Company Ltd.

“We were informed that the expansion of both projects will end the current rationing system painfully adopted by the Ghana Water Company Ltd and ensure that the people receive the needed potable water for domestic and industrial consumption. Several of our people compete with animals for limited, seasonal water supplies in nature, as the existing water plants do not provide enough for the region.

President Akuffu-Addo in July 2020, cut sod for the construction of the Tamale and Yendi Water Supply Project. But after four years on, work is yet to commence.

Meanwhile, Vice President Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia on his part assured the Yaa Naa that the Yendi Water Project is on, and the government is committed to ensuring that there is a lasting solution to the Yendi water crisis.
